Catan is a classic board game, which has an excellent mix of simplicity and strategy. This is a great game to play with friends as the concepts are really simple to understand, but is fun and challenging to master. The game challenges players on multiple levels, balancing resource management, placement, and strategy all towards the goal to become the ruler of Catan! In this game, you plan out settlements, towns, and roads to gain resources to expand your empire faster and farther than your opponents. You can hinder their progress by moving the thief to halt their resource gain or block them out with your own roads and settlements. This game has led me and my friends into a lot of fun heated debates and politics at the table. 

I think that one of the best aspects about Catan is its ripeness for expansion; once everyone has become comfortable with the base game, you have a variety of different versions or expansions to choose from that each add their own unique play feature to the game. These expansions can range from very simple to wildly complex, adding many new rules and resources to keep track of. There are even extensions that can help functionality by adding the ability to have more than 4 players play at once! Overall, Catan is a truly classic game and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun game to play for game night!
