Citadel Contrast Paints
Most miniature painters are taught to think in a systematic manner when it comes to painting. First you add a base color, then we shade it down, and finally highlight all the highest points. It’s taught because it works, we are able to get amazing looking minis using those steps, the only downside is that it’s not the best when you have to paint 20 orks, or models that look very similar, in a short amount of time.
That’s where Citadel Contrast paints come in. This viscous paint will help you speed up your painting projects by allowing you to base coat, shade and highlight all at once. They are designed to go over a light color and flow into the recesses of the model making those areas darker, while only tinting the rest. This combination allows you to be able to apply a coat of your desired Contrast Paint and get good results in just a few minutes.
Better yet, as the Contrast paint is transparent by design, it will be affected by the color you choose to put underneath. Games Workshop recommends using Wraightbone and Grey Seer from their color range. However, these are not your only options, in fact putting any Contrast paint over a metallic color can give you a great effect. Bronze, gold or even steel can all be achieved by putting brown, yellow or blue contrast paints over Stormhost Silver or any bright silver color.
Why stop there?! Need a Bard with candy coated armor? Baals Red over a bright silver will get that classic hot rod look. All of this is great when you’re dealing with a single model, but the moment you need to paint a large number of models is where Contrast paint shines. Contrast paints take just a few seconds to apply and it will save you hours in the long run.
With the addition of 26 new contrast paints you’ll be able to expiremiment and and will truly only be limited by your imagination.
